Are Lush really eco friendly…..?

or is there a much better eco friendly, organic, vegetarian, against animal testing range of skin and body care and cosmetics?

Both Lush and Body Shop are marketing to the eco-freaks, but neither of them are acceptable. Both began with good intentions and natural folk formulas, but over the years, it has proved easier and cheaper to source chemical and synthetic products. Body Shop for example is constantly failing its formaldehyde tests, and allows its sources to test on animals. They just don’t test on animals themselves. Or at least, didn’t use to, before they were sold… Lush promotes itself as handmade and fresh, but nowhere does it say natural, organic, or vegan. They use almost as many chemicals, by choice, as the leading commericial brands. For both companies, Eco-friendly is merely a carefully cultivated impression, which crumbles under the facts…

I have been working in the alternative industry for over 15 years, and am privilege to the trade literature. Nearly all the products in your local health food store are natural, vegan, safe, and untested on animals. Lots are organic, too. Those that are not are usually clearly marked, and the staff are very knowledgeable about which is which. One of the reasons we work there that we use these products ourselves, you know….

But you don’t have to rely on them. I personally have been whipping up my own set of natural, organic, vegan, eco-friendly cosmetics based on ancient and modern formulas that do not require testing. I do on myself anyway, since I’m using them, and then I can tell ppl how they work. That’s not for everyone, of course, but you can experiment with very little money and a few ingredients. I’m currently making washing grains, creams, ointments, body powders, perfumes, and other cosmetics. There are plenty of recipes on the ‘net, but I recommend getting a few books as well.
